The European Society of Gynaecological Oncology’s “seal of approval” recognizes Hadassah's excellence in the field
JERUSALEM — The Hadassah Medical Organization, the Jerusalem-based hospital system of Hadassah, The Women's Zionist Organization of America, has received accreditation from the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) as an ESGO Fellowship Training Centre. The international accreditation recognizes that the professional training, clinical expertise, research program and multidisciplinary infrastructure of Hadassah’s Department of Gynecological Oncology meet the highest international standards in one of the most complex gynecological specialties.
The prestigious accreditation will enable physicians from both Israel and abroad to complete an ESGO-recognized gynecologic oncology fellowship at the Hadassah Medical Organization. By increasing the network of doctors who have trained at Hadassah, the accreditation will expand the hospital system’s potential for international collaboration and ensure that its specialists are conversant in the latest advances in gynecologic cancer care.
“Training the next generation is an integral part of our mission," said Tamar Perri, MD, Director, Department of Gynecologic Oncology, Hadassah Medical Organization. “We're not only treating today's patients. We're also preparing doctors who can treat tomorrow's patients. Receiving ESGO accreditation as a training center for future gynecologic oncologists means that the international medical community recognizes the professional, academic and humane level of our team.”
A leading Israeli center for the treatment of malignancies of the female reproductive system, Hadassah’s Department of Gynecologic Oncology serves women from across Israel. In addition to their extensive clinical activities, the department’s physicians conduct research and participate in international studies, all while training fellows in advanced surgery, innovative treatments and multidisciplinary cancer care.
Said Hadassah Medical Organization Director General Yoram Weiss, MD, “This international ‘seal of approval’ is not just a recognition of what the Hadassah Medical Organization has already achieved but of our commitment to continue improving and innovating so that we can give patients with gynecological cancers the most advanced medical care possible.”
Through its accreditation program, the ESGO recognizes institutions that meet its high standards for educating future specialists in gynecologic oncology. Accreditation is awarded only after a comprehensive evaluation has established a medical center's clinical activity, patient volume, physician training, academic research, treatment outcomes and multidisciplinary approach to care.
Gynecologic oncology focuses on cancers of the female reproductive system, including ovarian, uterine, cervical and vulvar cancer. Because these diseases often require coordinated care from experts in many specialties, including surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, imaging and genetics, physician training is reserved for medical centers, like the Hadassah Medical Organization, with an advanced multidisciplinary program.
