JERUSALEM — Israel’s Ministry of Health has ranked the Hadassah Medical Organization first in Jerusalem and second in Israel in a new report on the quality of care provided by Israeli hospitals’ internal medicine departments.
The Ministry has also ranked the Jerusalem-based hospital system, which is owned by Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, first in Jerusalem in preventing internal medicine readmissions – one of the most important indicators of the quality of care – citing the in-depth, professional and comprehensive care the Hadassah Medical Organization gives its patients.
To rank Israel’s hospitals, the Ministry compared their performance on six measures, including staffing levels for physicians and nurses, patient experience and clinical outcomes.
Said Yoram Weiss, MD, chief executive of the Hadassah Medical Organization, “Our rankings reflect the intensive and professional efforts of our multidisciplinary teams. That includes everyone in the internal medicine intensive care unit, which does so much to enhance the quality of care in internal medicine.”
Internal medicine departments are the foundation of Israel’s public hospital system, with hundreds of thousands of patients receiving care each year, often for complex medical conditions and multiple illnesses. Population aging and the rising incidence of chronic diseases have added to the burden on already busy departments.
The Ministry of Health’s stated goals in publishing the rankings, which are used to allocate government grants, include promoting public transparency and encouraging continual improvement.
