Hadassah Medical Organization, Jerusalem

Jerusalem — The leading journal Nature has named the Hadassah Medical Organization, the hospital system of Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, the #1 hospital in Israel for scientific output. The publication’s Nature Index also ranks Hadassah among the top-200 hospitals worldwide.

The Index tracks primary-research articles in 145 natural- and health-science journals chosen, based on reputation, by an independent group of researchers.

Of all of Israel’s hospitals, during the period 2024 to 2025 the Hadassah Medical Organization was the most prolific author of articles on the clinical sciences (patient‐centered medicine), oncology and carcinogenesis, microbiology, genetics, cardiovascular medicine, hematology and many other areas.

Said Eyal Mishani, PhD, head of the hospital system’s Research and Development Division, “Nature ranked the hospitals based on impact factors, such as what they’ve published, the number of times an article was quoted and how many online visits each received – all of the academic parameters that facilitate an assessment of a hospital’s scientific work.”

Dr. Mishani, who has overseen Hadassah’s research program for two decades, gives credit for the hospital system’s success to its staff, who “focus on the ‘hottest’ areas of research in every sphere of medicine you can think of.”

He and Yoram Weiss, MD, chief executive of the Hadassah Medical Organization, agree that its parent body and generous donors have been essential to the success.

“Without the support of Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, and forward-thinking philanthropists who understand the importance of the work we’re doing, we wouldn't have been able to achieve what we have or to establish research centers that are changing the face of medicine,” said Dr. Weiss, citing as examples Hadassah’s Wohl Institute for Translational Medicine, the Hadassah Organoid Center and the Hadassah Cancer Research Institute.
