Step inside “one of the most extraordinary, artistic and spiritual destinations” — the Abbell Synagogue at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem, home to one of Israel’s remarkable treasures: the Chagall windows — with Kayla Sprague of the Israeli news site All Israel News.
On an episode of the site's YouTube series All Israel Gems, Sprague and Heritage Center tour guide Shira Esther Rabinowitz share the story and history behind the 12 windows, noting that Chagall had said that he felt his forefathers with him, fueling him with the power to create these stunning works of art.
Through turbulent times, the windows are treated with care so that they endure for generations to come; Chagall rebuilt one window himself after it was destroyed in the Six-Day War, and they were boarded up from the outside during the 12-day war with Iran this summer, “reminding us that sacred beauty still requires safeguards in times of war,” says Sprague.
