Finding Community With Hadassah

Alison A. Lobron didn’t know where to turn after the events of October 7, 2023, left her feeling “shock, grief and fear.”

“Like most Jews around the globe, my world changed forever on October 7, 2023,” she writes in The Times of Israel.

In-person communities were hard to find, so connections with people who shared her emotions — and comfort — were out of reach for Alison.

She thought about her time as a camper at Young Judaea’s (YJ) Camp Tel Yehudah and as a counselor at YJ’s Camp Sprout Lake, where she felt the sense of community she would crave years later.

Could Hadassah elicit that same joyful feeling? Before October 7, 2023, Alison didn’t think so. After October 7, 2023, she had a change of heart.

Her Hadassah journey began with one Hadassah Hanukkah party, and now she is a member of Evolve Hadassah Northeast and the Hadassah Educator’s Council.

“We are living in dark, scary times. The Evolve Hadassah Northeast Network has been a source of light and inspiration since the moment I joined.”
