[Hadassah On Call] Midwifery: Bump, Baby & Beyond

“More women in America should look for midwives and have access to midwives,” said Gila Zarbiv, a certified nurse-midwife at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem.

Midwifery in the US is exceptional, according to Zarbiv, who joins the Hadassah On Call podcast this May, when we celebrate nurses nationally and internationally.

In fact, midwives have 90% scope of practice; they are responsible for almost all the women’s healthcare continuum, including sexual, reproductive, maternal, neonatal and adolescent health.

What’s more, says Zarbiv, is that midwives play crucial roles in reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. According to a recent study, she says, if every woman in the world had access to a midwife, 4.3 million lives would be saved by 2030.
