Hadassah Opens Clinic to Support Women Through Life-cycle Challenges

To support women facing challenges related to their reproductive cycles, the Hadassah Medical Center is opening a new clinic.

Whether it is the need for hormonal treatments to achieve a pregnancy, help with postpartum depression, or support through the transition to menopause, the clinic staff will work in conjunction with their colleagues in the Women’s Health Center to offer comprehensive multidisciplinary support.

Recognizing that upheaval at all stages of the reproductive cycle requires experts who are cognizant of the biological, social, and emotional changes a woman is going through, the clinic specialists aim to head off syndromes that can have consequences for women years later.

Senior Psychiatrist Prof. Ronen Segman, whose research has documented the molecular aspects of post-natal depression, explains: "The hormonal overload--the same feeling that may cause moodiness at certain times of the month--is involved in post-natal depression, and it often goes unrecognized in a community clinic, although it is the most common complication of modern childbirth.”

She adds: “Both women and their families, particularly children, will suffer if the mother’s emotional issues go untreated.”
