Crohn's Disease, a debilitating disease characterized by severe abdominal pain, fatigue and severe diarrhea, brought together 100 parents and children from all over Israel for a meeting hosted by Prof. Michael Wilschanski, director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology Unit at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem. Barbara Sofer, the Israel director of public relations at Hadassah, described the event in an article published recently in The Jerusalem Post.
Prof. Wilschanski, noting the increase in the occurrence of Crohn's in children even as young as six months old, updated the attendees on new directions of treatment and encouraged the teens to talk about their disease and share their experiences with the other kids. The meeting encouraged them to open up about their difficulties dealing with Crohn's and, importantly, fostered conversation among Jews and Arabs, secular and religious.
