A Clinical Review of Vaginal Health in Breast Cancer Survivors

A team of Hadassah Medical Organization experts in obstetrics and gynecology, oncology and breast surgery reviewed the effects of low estrogen on the vaginal health of breast cancer patients following treatment.

In an article in the journal Therapeutic Advances in Medical Oncology, the authors offer updated guidelines for diagnosing and treating the uncomfortable symptoms in the genital and urinary systems that are impacted by the lack of the hormone.

According to the article, a lack of estrogen has been known to lower the quality of life for many breast cancer survivors following treatment and can make it more difficult to keep up with their hormone therapy, thereby potentially compromising their outcomes. Doctors often overlook these issues, not being confident in an effective solution.
