Breaking News - Crisis in Israel

Hadassah National President Rhoda Smolow and CEO Naomi Adler issued a statement on the morning of October 7:

"We awoke on Shabbat and Simchat Torah to the shocking, terrifying news that Israel is under deadly attack by Hamas and the country has declared it is at war. At least 100 people have been killed, with casualties expected to rise. May their memories be a blessing. Hundreds of people have been critically injured, and the Hadassah Medical Organization is already treating many wounded from around the country. We are also in touch with our youth villages, which are supporting their students, staff and families and are standing by to take in students and families from the south.

"Exactly 50 years to the day of the surprise attack by Egyptian and Syrian forces that began the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Israel again defends its sovereignty.

"We are praying for the safety of our Hadassah family, our loved ones, those who have been wounded and everyone in our beloved Israel. May peace come soon. We stand with Israel."
