With a focus on the critical work of Hadassah hospitals on and after October 7, 2023, Hadassah Medical Organization doctors were featured on a special broadcast produced by the Jewish Agency for Israel and ILTV, commemorating the second anniversary of the terror attacks.
October 7: Two Years Later reflects on loss and resilience, with the Hadassah doctors, interviewed by ILTV’s Maayan Hoffman (host of the Hadassah On Call podcast), focusing on the long path of recovery.
Dr. Sheer Shabat Ben-Yehuda, senior resident in rehabilitation, continues to treat soldiers and civilians admitted in the past two years. These patients, she says, are still suffering from physical limitations, emotional distress and chronic pain. Some of them are “at crucial crossroads — returning to work, to active military duty or resuming studies.”
“There’s a huge, long journey for them to come back to life,” says Dr. Yonah Ofran of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Once the Gandel Rehabilitation Center at Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus opened, she says, they were able to move beyond the initial chaos to begin long-term planning and offer patients everything they need to return to the lives they once had.
To help enable a smooth transition from operating room to rehabilitation, Dr. Yoram Weil, director of the Orthopedic Trauma Unit, says that it is his team’s job to do what they can to ensure immediate mobilization so that their rehab colleagues can work better with the patients.
Hadassah, along with Magen David Adom and the Jewish Agency for Israel, sponsored this program.
