[Hadassah On Call] Parkinson’s Disease: New Treatments and Race for a Cure

While there are many unknowns about Parkinson’s – a disease that impacts 10 million people worldwide – Hadassah doctors in Israel are encouraged by their wealth of research.

“We are on the edge of a very exciting era, when we’ll have much better treatments” for Parkinson’s disease, says Dr. Dana Ekstein, chair of the Neurology Department at Hadassah Hospital.

In the latest episode of Hadassah On Call, “Parkinson’s Disease: Surprising New Treatments and the Race for a Cure,” Dr. Ekstein, senior neurologist Dr. David Arkadir and podcast host Benyamin Cohen discuss exciting breakthroughs. From stem cell therapy to deep brain stimulation treatments, Dr. Ekstein and Dr. David Arkadir are hopeful their research will help patients often crippled by this disease.

When asked if there will be a cure for Parkinson’s in the future, Dr. Arkadir is optimistic. “I believe one day we’ll have one,” he says, adding, “Hopefully, one day we’ll also have a way to reverse it…it’s a very, very fast advancing field.”
