Before October 7, 2023, the typical rehabilitation patient at Hadassah hospitals had suffered from a stroke, fracture or even a brain tumor. The average patient was about 50 years old.
Now, the average age is 21. The patients are war-wounded soldiers suffering from injuries to their limbs, said Dr. Elior Moreh, head of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Gandel Rehabilitation Center and guest on the newest episode of the Hadassah On Call podcast.
Since the opening of the Gandel Center, just three months into the war, rather than a year after as originally planned pre-war, Dr. Moreh said, “We have so much more room. It has changed the condition of the patients.”
“There is still a huge need for the opening of the rest of the floors, and we hope it will be soon,” she added.
