[Hadassah On Call] World-Renowned Stroke Expert Talks COVID, Risks and More

As the world emerges from the pandemic, top medical experts from Hadassah’s hospitals are examining alarming, long-term health complications of recovered COVID-19 patients. Among them is Dr. Ronen Leker, the director of the Stroke Unit at the Hadassah Medical Organization, who joined a research team consisting of doctors from Israel and 31 other countries to study the connection between COVID-19 and strokes.

"We were lucky, my team and myself, to be part of a global team that looked at COVID and strokes," says Dr. Leker, who discovered a higher incidence of stroke in younger patients without any risk factors as a result of this study.

In the latest Hadassah On Call podcast episode, “Strokes: Risk Factors, Treatments and COVID-19 Long-haulers,” Dr. Leker reveals what he's learned about COVID long-haulers who are experiencing stroke-like symptoms, the risk factors for strokes and how making healthy lifestyle choices is the best preventive medicine to reduce your risk of having a stroke.

"You have to work out on a regular basis, you have to eat right, you have to stop smoking," says Dr. Leker, adding, "If we can modify these risk factors, we're going to minimize the risk of stroke."
