Liz Matzkina, Benefiting From Tools Learned at Meir Shfeyah

From Hadassah-supported Meir Shfeyah Youth Aliyah Village to Henrietta Szold Hadassah-Hebrew University School of Nursing to Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem, Elizaveta “Liz” Matzkina is sticking to what works.

At 14, Russian-born Liz knew she wanted to make aliyah after visiting Israel for a Bible competition. That same year, she came to Meir Shfeyah.

“I always knew that in Russia, I had no future. And here, I have the chance for a good future,” she said.

Receiving a robust education, she studied physics, computers, biology, math, English, Hebrew and even agriculture.

Today, Liz credits her three years at Meir Shfeyah for the strength she has in facing life’s challenges with confidence.

After graduation, she served as a medic for two years in the Israeli army before studying nursing at the Hadassah Medical Organization.

Now, Liz is a cardiology nurse at Hadassah Ein Kerem.

“I don’t think that I would be the same person that I am today if I didn’t get the tools that Meir Shfeyah gave me.”
