About this episode

Many Jewish healthcare professionals, students and patients are finding themselves confronting hostility in places that are supposed to be safe.

In this special episode, recorded in Detroit on June 9, Hadassah Magazine Presents partners with Hadassah On Call: New Frontiers in Medicine to explore the growing impact of antisemitism and anti-Zionism in healthcare since October 7, 2023. The discussion, moderated by Hadassah Magazine Executive Editor Lisa Hostein, features Dr. Michelle Elisburg, pediatrician and co-chair of the Hadassah Physicians Council; Dr. Uri Hadelsberg, spine surgeon at the Hadassah Medical Organization, and Michelle Stravitz, CEO emeritus of the American Jewish Medical Association.

The panelists share personal experiences from hospitals, clinics and medical schools, discussing incidents ranging from workplace harassment and exclusion to threats against Jewish healthcare workers and concerns about patient trust and safety. They examine how antisemitism has affected medical education, professional organizations and healthcare settings while also exploring the legal, institutional and educational tools available to address it.

The conversation highlights the unique environment at Hadassah hospitals in Jerusalem, where Jewish and Arab healthcare professionals work side by side caring for all patients regardless of background. This episode also includes a series of updates on Hadassah hospitals' emergency preparedness efforts in Israel and how advocacy, education and accountability can help combat antisemitism in healthcare.
