Advocacy Alert - September 5, 2017

On August 23, the Central Pacific Coast Region convened a successful Day in the District with Rep. Anna Eshoo – the first for the Region! Hadassah advocates discussed with Rep. Eshoo her support for Israel, combating anti-Semitism and human trafficking, and promoting women’s health equity. Rabbi Laurie Matzkin, a Life Member, also described the makeup of the local Jewish community and gave a moving presentation about Hadassah’s commitment to tikkun olam, repairing the world.

Tell us about your Day in the District or local advocacy programs and maybe your chapter will be highlighted in an upcoming advocacy update! Need help planning one? Let us know.

Advocate for the issues that mean the most to you, through both letters and in-person visits to your legislators.

Urge White House to Appoint Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism

Your actions are making a difference! Secretary Rex Tillerson announced last week that the Office to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism will remain open. However, this isn’t enough. Urge the White House to appoint a Special Envoy, to ensure the effectiveness of this crucial office. While visiting our National Action Center, you can also contact Congress about key legislation to combat anti-Semitism.

Senate Must Reauthorize Trafficking Victims Protection Act

Thanks to your letters, the House voted to reauthorize the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) in July. Reauthorizing the Trafficking Victims Protection Act would support critical programs to prevent human trafficking, promote justice for survivors, provide services to victims and increase federal coordination to enhance the federal government’s response to the crisis of exploitation. The Senate must swiftly reauthorize the TVPA. Please urge all legislators to build on this momentum to protect victims of trafficking.

Another great way to be a Zionist advocate is to visit Israel with Hadassah! We host several missions to Israel each year, with different focuses including geopolitics, Jerusalem and the Spectacular South, and more. See which trip speaks to you at Hadassah.org/missions.

Hadassah Advocacy Updates provide Hadassah members, Associates, and supporters with information about our Zionist and domestic policy work on a consistent basis.
