Hadassah Women Advocate in the Courts

In this piece for the Times of Israel Blog, Tamar Sadeh, co-chair of Hadassah's National Attorneys and Judges Council, discusses Hadassah's Amicus Brief Program. The program, which Sadeh started in 1998, works to protect women's health autonomy, maintain the separation of religion and state, and combat antisemitism. In her blog post, Sadeh tells readers about the amicus brief Hadassah signed during a Supreme Court case in which the American heirs of Jewish art dealers sought the return of artwork stolen from their family by the Nazis. In two other Supreme Court cases, Hadassah signed amicus briefs supporting a woman’s right to make her own reproductive health choices. And in an appellate court case ultimately reviewed by the Supreme Court, Hadassah signed an amicus brief challenging the constitutionality of prayer at public school sporting events. Says Sadeh, "It is empowering and uplifting — especially in our polarized times — to bring together a diverse group of attorneys and judges for crucial advocacy."

Tamar Sadeh is part of the Hadassah Writers' Circle, a program created by the Media & Public Relations team that offers volunteer leaders, members and our professional staff the opportunity to share their thoughts and personal stories about Hadassah's mission, values and programs.
