“Our Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus pediatric department is a puzzle of staff, parents and children from different populations, who come together and make our department perfect,” said Dr. Rivka Brooks, head of the Pediatrics Department. “The puzzle on the wall now symbolizes this,” she said at the unveiling of a 23-foot-long Disney-themed puzzle on the fifth-floor entrance of the department.
Puzzle enthusiast Lital Ben Atia, who works as an economist at Kamada Pharmaceuticals, the company that donated the puzzle, spent nine months assembling the 40,320 pieces. She spent an average of three hours a day, energized by knowing she wanted to donate it to children. She approached the Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) with the idea and said she “knew immediately” that she had found the perfect home for her masterpiece.
HMO Director General Prof. Yoram Weiss thanked Ben Atia and the Hadassah staff present at the unveiling. "The human puzzle is Hadassah's greatness and strength. Our mission is to care for the children not only on a medical level but also to give them the pleasant environment they need when they come here."
Said Dr. Brooks: “A puzzle is unique. Together, all the pieces create a magnificent and harmonious image. A puzzle requires a lot of work — seeing that every piece fits and that together they make a beautiful picture. Every person who works here knows how relevant this is to our hospital and our department."
An ebullient Ben Atia inspected her handiwork that will delight girls and boys of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. "It was a long, complex and challenging process that required patience and perseverance, but the knowledge that the puzzle has a purpose and will bring joy to the families and children rendered the journey deeply meaningful to me."
